Lucid Motors Leaks EV Sedan Shot

Lucid Motors, a new startup EV automaker, has revealed a teaser shot of a prototype of its new sedan. In the photo, the camouflaged sedan is sandwiched in between a Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan and a BMW 7 Series, indicating that this car will be a high-end model.

Compared to more traditional sedans, the Lucid prototype features a dramatic fastback design reminiscent of many coupe-like four-door vehicles that have gained in popularity. Upon closer inspection, the trunk’s cut lines look like they include the rear window, making the car appear more hatch-like even though it’s not. We learned in our preview that the Lucid is not a hatchback, as the company wanted the stronger chassis and reduced interior noise a sedan body style offers. The greenhouse also seems much larger than the two German sedans, making the car appear smaller and less bulbous. Its short hood also contributes to it looking like it has a smaller footprint than your typical full-size sedan, and it also suggests that it may have a shorter wheelbase.

The way the roofline arcs also hints that the prototype’s interior will be much more spacious than your typical sedan. As we learned, the battery pack isn’t a gigantic slab like that of its chief rival, the Tesla Model S. The cells are stacked in a way that best optimizes cabin space and seating comfort. The car appears to be sitting much lower than the S-Class and 7 Series next to it, hinting at an extremely low center of gravity.

The Lucid sedan will be in L.A. for the auto show this week, so we hope to learn more about its potentially game-changing EV soon.
